Control Traffic!

  • Stay off new sod that is extremely wet or on a slope
  • Use sod sparingly until it is well rooted - usually 2 - 3 weeks
  • Avoid concentrated play, dog traffic or rough use for 4 weeks

Fertilize!

  • There are many different brands of lawn fertilizer. The important thing to remember is the time of application - not the brand name. Also, several small applications throughout the year are better than one large application
  • Use the sod growers method of application
  • Fertilize in September, October, December, March and the beginning of May

Control Weeds!

  • Use of chemical herbicides may be necessary from time to time
  • Consult your local garden store for the right product for your needs.

Control Disease!

  • Turf-type tall fescues are resistant to most diseases, but can be affected by a disease known as "brown-patch". It occurs during hot, humid weather when night temperatures stay above 70 degrees. Brown-patch is unsightly but it will not damage the sod.

Repair Damaged Areas!

  • Prevent thinning by removing leaves and evergreen needles in the fall
  • Re-sod or over-seed areas damaged by physical means
